Who: Open to 4-H PEI members ages 9-21 as of Jan. 1, 2026
Project Completion: Members must attend all 3 sessions.
Registration Fee: Free
Registration Deadline: THIS PROJECT IS NOW FULL - registration closed.
Maximum Registration: 20 members—spots awarded at a 1st come basis.

Project Sessions Info & Dates:
 
Intro to Owls—Tuesday, January 13th at 6:00 p.m.
 The BBEMA Office, 1929 Nodd Rd in Emerald

This session will introduce the project and all there is to know about owls! We’ll talk about the importance of owls in our ecosystem, the different types of owls here on PEI and their prey, and the purposes of building a nesting box. This session will include an owl pellet dissection, examining mounted specimens, and assembling a footprint tunnel!
 
Owl Nesting Box Workshop—Tuesday, February 10th at 6:00 p.m. 
The BBEMA Office, 1929 Nodd Rd in Emerald

Join us for a hands-on wood working day to help wildlife. This workshop will teach
participants how to assemble barred owl and northern saw-whet owl nesting boxes! 
 
Owl Nature Walk—Saturday, March 14th at 6:00 p.m.
Dunk River Trail on Scales Pond Road

A guided owl-themed nature trail walk at dusk. Participants will learn how to identify/make owls calls, search for signs of owl activity, and learn about their habitat and ecosystem. Along the walk, we will see an installed owl box, and participants will examine footprints from their footprint tunnel. 
***Every 4-H PEI member of all ages is invited to participate in the nature walk—no registration required if only participating in the nature walk.
***If you are a Western Region member and you are only participating in the nature walk part of this project you can count the walk towards your Active Living Project Completion.
