Adulting 101 Project 2024

​​Growing up is hard to do! Part one of this project series aims to give members valuable information on such life skills as food safety, nutrition, etiquette, and clothing, home, and automobile care. 
 
To complete this project members must:
- attend 2 mandatory sessions,
- plus attend at least 2 of the 3 remaining sessions,
- plus host a small dinner party for their friends.
- complete a Project Record Page for their member portfolio (to display at their club's Achievement Day)

Project Record Page
Who:  This project is open to 4-H members island wide ages 12-21. 
 
Min/Max Registration:  This projects needs a minimum of 6 members to run, and will accept a maximum of 12.

Registration Fee: Free

Huge thanks to the 4-H PEI Trust for their support of this initiative as well as PEI Women's Institute, Anderson Automotive, and the Summerside Fire Department for their help with this project!

Session 1: Foods  *Mandatory
When: Saturday, March 16, 1pm-4pm
Where: The Emerald Community Centre (aka The Boxcar), 1910 Nodd Rd., Emerald
Facilitators: Jenna Kenny & Jackie Harlow
What: This session will cover some basics on nutrition, food safety, menu planning, and grocery shopping, as well as  learning a few simple healthy recipes.

Session 2: Basic Automobile Care
When: Saturday, April 6, 1pm-3:30pm
Where: Anderson Automotive, 43 Jenkins Ave., Summerside
Facilitators: Anderson Automotive
What: ​This workshop will educate the members about the importance of vehicle maintenance and safety, and how to keep their car running newer, longer. Learn such skills as to how to change a tire and check fluids. 

Chaperones needed: If any parents who are screened 4-H volunteers can help chaperone this session please let Jackie know!​​

Session 3: Etiquette & Dinner Party Planning  *Mandatory
When: Saturday, April 20, 1pm-3:30pm
Where: The Kensington Legion, 30 Garden Drive, Kensington
Facilitators: Sheila Gallant from the PEI Women's Institute & Jackie Harlow
What:  This session will cover table, social, and workplace etiquettes, including showing gratitude. The members will also receive information about how to complete their Achievement Day requirement of hosting a small dinner party for their friends.

Session 4: Clothing Care & Housekeeping
When: Now combined with the April 20th session
Where: The Kensington Legion, 30 Garden Drive, Kensington
Facilitators: Sheila Gallant from the PEI Women's Institute 
What: Members will learn about some important laundry basics  (including deciphering washing instruction symbols on clothing tags, stain removal, & drier safety), and mending & ironing clothes. The house cleaning  part of the session will include safe handling of cleaning products & helpful cleaning hacks!

Session 5: Fire Safety & Basic Property Care
When: Sunday, May 26, 1pm-3:30pm 
Where: Summerside Fire Hall, 45 Summer St., Summerside
Facilitators: Summerside Fire Department
What:  Members will learn about basic property care for all seasons (i.e. house and yard upkeep), as well as fire prevention and safety, and carbon monoxide safety.
